Born on January 1, 1963 in the Lebanese village of Bkheshtay but raised in the Achrafiyeh section of Beirut in the parish of Deir Dakhoul as-Saidi, Father Gabriel (who is fluent in Arabic, French and English) received his M. Div. from the St John of Damascus Patriarchal Institute of Theology at the University of Balamand in 1987 and his M.A. in Christian Education from St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in Crestwood, New York in 1989.
He married the former Diana Mlayess of Beitroumine, north Lebanon (who is an attorney) on January 27, 1991, and they are the parents of three children: a daughter Lucia, and two sons Alexy and Anthony.
Since his ordination to the sacred priesthood on March 25, 1994 Father Gabriel has served as priest at the Church of the Annunciation in Achrafiyeh, director of the Archdiocese of Beirut's Department of Christian Education as well as its Pastoral School, served on the Archdiocesan Spiritual Court, and held numerous other responsible positions within the Beirut Archdiocese.
